Voyage LA Magazine Interview

Voyage LA Magazine Interview

So, last month I was approached by VoyageLA Magazine and asked to do an interview / article for the magazine and it is now out for everyone to see. It was fun and yet hard when talking about my experiences with my company, clients and design in general. When you stop and really reflect on all of this it is hard to put into words this 12 + year journey I have been on.

As a designer and business owner I have my opinions don’t get me wrong, but when you start to really write it all down it is interesting on how it all evolved. I have had some incredible project I have worked on like the World Magic Awards, The Hollywood Christmas Parade brochure, Unlocking the DaVinci Code documentary and too many to mention.

But I have had some clients that I have had to step aside form as well and not work with and it is extremely hard for me to say no or we can’t work together because I want to work with everyone. But as a business owner sometimes those decisions had to be made. As an artist, it gets hard to adjust to those situations. But over the course of building my company I learned I must grow a thicker skin. It makes you a better artist and owner going through the good and the bad and I know I am a better person for having gone through it all.

Clients and What’s Next

Handling clients is tricky and when I come from a generation of, “the client is always right” to a generation of, “well… not all the time”. But again, I have some really great clients and some I have worked with since the beginning. I try to add services to the company and expand to become more of a one stop shop for my clients so it saves them, time money and frustrations of dealing with multiple companies for different aspects of their marketing. I believe making the clients life better through saving time, money and worry is why my clients like working with me as I do truly have their best interest at heart.

So, know the question is about writing a book. I want to approach something from me and from the heart and what I have learned about business and how one owner cannot do it all and you need to make sure you have the right people and businesses behind you to make you the best you can be. But also, I want to talk and show design. So, I think it will be a good hybrid book. At least in my head for now I think people will enjoy it.

Anyway, please read the article and let me hear some feedback as I would like to hear what people are thinking that are not related to me or close friends lol. It has been a heart year so far for 2017 and I am looking forward to growth and learning going forward.
